Basics of Fire Alarm Detection on Ships

Prevention is always better than cure, and this is a vital proverb which must be followed in boats. It is essential to stop the fire from starting rather than preventing it after occurring. One of the significant dangers is the leakage of pipeline carrying fuel which can ignite and cause a fire. However, in today’s ship, if the leakage occurs, then the fuel from the pipe is sent to another tank and thereby stops the fuel to spread there.

Ships basically divide the duties of all crews so that everyone receives perfect rest, and after that, everyone can perform their duty carefully. But still sometimes because of some unavoidable circumstances, fire may take place. The action must be an immediate one to stop the fire.

Types of the Fire Detection System in Ships

There are many ways of Marine Fire Alarm Detection Systems which are as follows-

  • Heat Detectors-There are many types of heat detectors which detect the generation of heat. This detection may take place with the help of a bi-metallic strip. The bi-metallic strip is basically made up of two strips of metal a thin one and a thicker one and because of the rise of the temperature the thin strip of metal starts bending which brings the other metal with its contact and will raise the alarm for a good amount of heat. If there is a normal rise in the temperature, then the two strips will deflect at the same rate, and so no reaction takes place. With an increase of around 75 degree Celsius, the alarm is generally triggered.
  • Flame Detectors-Flicker frequency is defined as a term which measures from the flame that produces light. The frequency is around 25 Hz. Monitoring the spectrum with an ultraviolet range can create the alarm. In the case of oil fire smoke is very less, and flame detectors are mostly used there. Boilers or the place near types of equipment that handles fuel is having these kinds of alarms.
  • Smoke Detectors-After all these types, we can say that smoke detectors are also two types, and they are the ionizing type and the light obscuration type. Smoke detectors are very common in the accommodation areas.

No Climb Detector Tester is a company which is famous in designing and manufacturing the testing technology to determine the best fire detection systems for onboard ships. Atlas Technologies Corporation is one of the famous companies who are producing good quality products and also following the rules of the ship governing body related to safety that is the SOLAS. The company must always be wise enough to choose the best detection system related to fire for their boats for the safety of the crews.
